Extra Mile Development Foundation has spent K21.9 million on initiatives to promote menstrual hygiene in four primary schools in Mzimba North.
The organisation has constructed changing rooms, pit latrines, provided hand-washing facilities and sewing machines for production of re-usable sanitary pads at Enthongeni, Engcongolweni and Embombeni primary schools in Traditional Authority (T/A) Mtwalo and St Dominic Primary School in T/A Jalavikuba.
As girls and young women continue being vulnerable to abuse during emergencies, Extra Mile Development Foundation together with Mulanje Youth Organisation have urged girls and young women to report cases of sexual and gender based violence.
This call was made by MYO Field Officer Violet Mwanyali during an awareness campaign session with girls and young women at Nanviyo camp, T/A Njema in Mulanje district.
14-year-old Esnat James from Traditional Authority Mposa in Machinga district has big dreams of a better life for herself once she completes her education.
She is currently in standard 8, expecting to finish her primary education with secondary education now on the horizon.
